Commercial popcorn machines are not all that hard to use as long as you know what you are doing. However, many people are now buying these machines for home use or small business ventures and are not getting the professional training that large theaters and carnivals offer their employees. I wrote this article to give these people a helping hand in learning how to operate their new machines.

First, let the machine heat up for fifteen to twenty seconds. Finding the heat switch and pushing it into the “on” position is all you need to do. Popcorn maker heat switches are usually found on top of the popcorn machine, so it will not be very hard to locate.

Make sure the popper is hot before you put the oil in it, but do not allow it to be left on without the oil after it becomes hot. Keep a clock near your machine or silently count down from 20 seconds so that you will know when to take the next step.

Next you will want to add the oil to the popcorn machine and put the motor button into the on position. This button is usually found right next to the heat button. Turn this on before you add the salt and popcorn to ensure that the three will mix well.

Placing the popcorn and salt in with the oil should happen right after the motor is turned on. The motor will move the popcorn, oil, and salt around and mix them perfectly for you.

After doing this you will need to push the last “on” button into place; this button is the heat lamp. Heat lamp “on” buttons are found alongside the heat button and motor button. Leave the heat lamp on so that your popcorn machine    will help keep your popcorn warm after it is done cooking.

Next, give the popcorn some time to complete its cooking cycle. Turn the heat switch off and take the popcorn out with care as it may be very hot. The most effective way to remove the popcorn is to gently dump it out. This will ensure that you do not damage the kettle.

Heat lamps can be left on to keep the popcorn warm until it is served. Always be sure to turn the heat lamp off before retiring the machine for the night. This will make sure you get the longest life span possible from your heat lamps.

Finally, you will need to wait for your popcorn popper to cool off and commence cleaning it. Cleaning your machine will keep it tasting and looking like new for many years.
