However, a study performed at Memorial University in St. John&rsquo;s Newfoundland revealed platelets of subjects who consumed either a low or fat-free yogurt, orange juice, fruit and protein-rich food have significantly low levels of activated platelets. 1 Simply put: Eating a light, very low fat breakfast can modify the morning platelet activation, preventing blood clot formation and keeping you away from the potential risk of stroke and heart attack.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p> March   reminds me of one thing &ndash; it&rsquo;s time for  my birthday! &nbsp;I&rsquo;m not one of those  ladies   that hates getting  a year older &ndash;  as a matter of   fact, I love my birthday! &nbsp; I love  the  party   and having a  great reason&nbsp;  to  eat at my favorite restaurants with my  children.    &nbsp; When  the week of my birthday   rolls  around each year, I  typically   have  a long   list of  extended family   who want  to take me out to lunch or dinner,&nbsp;  or  ask   to have  me and my family   over  for a  yummy   meal to celebrate.&nbsp; I love it! &nbsp; I&rsquo;m also one of those &nbsp;crazy coupon-clipping&nbsp;  &nbsp;moms&nbsp;  and my birthday week   brings with it     a long list of       bargains   and  money-saving offers  to my email inbox of free slices of pie  or a free  drink  from most  of my favorite restaurants. &nbsp; Typically,&nbsp;&nbsp; the special  bargain   usually only lasts   about 1 week  to use the  offer   before it expires &ndash; so  the week of my birthday   can mean a lot of  excellent  restaurants   and extra calories.&nbsp; Then,  add in that I&rsquo;m a &nbsp;woman who counts calories and   who is trying  to keep my weight in check&nbsp;means that my birthday, can be&nbsp; bad news   to my waistline.</p>
<p>Below are some simple  tips  on how to  enjoy your special day   while still  watching your caloric intake: </p>
<p>1.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Get  up   20 minutes   earlier  every   day this week and go for a  brisk    walk   around the  neighborhood,   or do  30   extra minutes on the  bike   to blast   extra calories.</p>
<p>2.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Try to  drink  2   large   glasses of  ice water   before  consuming   any food  or  tasting    an alcoholic beverage. </p>
<p>3.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;  Make it a goal to limit your   sugaryor alcoholic celebratory drinks to only one  glass. </p>

<p>Step 1: Choose fruit and juice Choose your fruit and fruit juice. A variety of flavors mixed together can make for the most satisfying smoothie—a few dashes of cranberry juice or a squeeze of lime may be just what that O.J. and banana combo needs.  Step 2: Peel, pit, or de-seed fruit Peel, pit, or de-seed your fruit if necessary.  Step 3: Put in fruit, add juice Put the fruit in the blender, and add the juice. For a sweet smoothie, add 1 or 2 tablespoons of honey. For a cold one, add 6 to 8 ice cubes. And for an extra health kick, throw in protein powder, wheat germ, bee pollen, or flaxseed.  Step 4: Add milk, cream, or yogurt Add the milk, light cream, or yogurt to give the smoothie a rich and silky texture.  Step 5: Blend Put the lid on the blender, and blend at a medium speed until smooth. Running your blender too high will turn your creation into glorified fruit juice. Running it too slow will leave behind large chunks of unblended fruit.  Step 6: Taste Stop the blender and do a taste test, then make any necessary adjustments, adding yogurt or ice to thicken, honey to sweeten.  Step 7: Pour and serve Pour your smoothie into the glass, and serve. The South American variant of the smoothie is called a “licuado,” as in “liquefied” or “blended.”</p></div>
